Most Canadian Children Under 5 Have Never Had an Eye Exam, Specsavers Reports
Specsavers Canada released data citing Angus Reid, revealing that 73 percent of Canadian children under age five have never undergone an eye exam with an optometrist. Among those aged five to nineteen, 31 percent have not had an exam in the past two years. The company noted a threefold increase in myopia management treatments over the last 18 months and sees approximately 1,800 children presenting with myopia monthly across Canada. Citing the Canadian Association of Optometrists, Specsavers highlighted that 30 percent of Canadians are affected by myopia, which increasingly develops at younger ages. Clinical Services Director Naomi Barber emphasized annual exams for early detection and stated the company offers affordable myopia management solutions during October’s Children's Vision Month.
