UC San Diego Spinoff Aynak Develops AI Glasses Prototype to Enhance Speech Clarity in Crowds

Aynak, a startup at the UC San Diego Innovation Center, has developed a prototype eyewear designed to clarify the voice of the person the user is looking at in noisy environments. The glasses integrate microphones and a visual sensor to identify the target speaker, processing audio locally on the device to minimize latency and prevent echo. The company states that images captured by the sensor are not transmitted externally. Users can adjust sound frequencies via a mobile app based on their hearing profiles. Aynak plans to distribute approximately 35 units through local optical stores in San Diego for user testing, with a second distribution scheduled for January 2027. This technology remains experimental and is not yet a commercially available or clinically validated hearing aid solution.
