OptoTech and ZEISS Vision Care Introduce Patented Vacuum Blocking Process for Ophthalmic Lens Production

On September 18, 2025, in Wettenberg, OptoTech and ZEISS Vision Care announced a patented vacuum blocking process for ophthalmic lens manufacturing. This technology replaces conventional alloy or plastic adhesive methods. OptoTech developed two key machines, the fully automated IQ-Synergy Eco Blocker and IQ-Synergy Eco Deblocker, which have been successfully tested and implemented at ZEISS Vision Care. The process reduces manufacturing steps, eliminates additional waste, and offers flexible integration with existing equipment. It also provides substantial cost and energy savings on consumables and machine operation. Dr. Stefan Seifried, Managing Director of OptoTech Optikmaschinen GmbH, stated that the ECO Block Technology aims to make lens production faster, more cost-efficient, and sustainable, calling it an industry milestone achieved through joint development.
