Julbo and MerConcept Announce Reused-Carbon Sunglasses for Route du Rhum

Eyewear brand Julbo and maritime firm MerConcept announced a collaboration to produce sunglasses using carbon from offshore racing sailboats. The partnership resulted in two limited-edition models, OFFSHORE KARBON and KEEN KARBON, featuring temples made from manufacturing offcuts and damaged boat parts. Designed for sailors, the glasses utilize bio-circular polycarbonate lenses with 60% plant-based content and SPECTRON HD technology offering 80% polarization. The announcement precedes the Route du Rhum race on November 1, 2026, where MerConcept skippers will wear the eyewear. Production involves handcrafted assembly by BYKARBON and includes recycled felt pouches. This initiative aims to reduce carbon footprints while maintaining performance standards for demanding sea conditions.
